Vintage French Parisian Poulbots Montmartre Oil on Canvas

Description

Charming Vintage painting French Oil on Canvas depicting Montmartre poulbots – the street children of Paris made famous by artist Francisque Poulbot in the early 20th century.

This painting shows characteristics of French folk art with an expressionist touch.

The children feature oversized heads, large eyes, typical of poulbot imagery. The brushwork is loose and gestural, with visible paint texture and an almost illustrative quality that was popular in decorative French art of the early-to-mid 20th century.

Two Parisien kid dominate the foreground – one playing what appears to be a mandolin or lute, both rendered in soft pinks, yellows, and greens.

The background shows a typical Montmartre street scene with buildings, figures, and the atmospheric dark palette punctuated by colorful accents. There are flowers at the bottom and orbs (possibly street lamps) at the top.

Based on the style, subject matter, wear, and the presence of an old street lamp from the 1930s-40s being most probable.

Overall a Good and decorative art souvenir piece. This early whimsical Parisian street scene is most definitely a decorative piece adquiered as a souvenir.
